WAR CHILD UK LAUNCHES INAUGURAL RETRO-INSPIRED GAMING CAMPAIGN - TAKING PLAYERS BACK TO THE CLASSICS WITH ‘RE-PLAY’

RE-PLAY encourages gamers to reconnect with games from their childhood while helping protect the right to play for some of the world’s most vulnerable children.
A campaign highlight will be an interactive livestream hosted by comedian Steve McNeil featuring celebrity guests and well-known gamers playing their favourite childhood games. The livestream will kick off at 1pm BST on 12th April on UNILAD Gaming and include must-watch guests, YouTube sensations TomSka, Ashens, and NitroLuke DX, eSports team FNATIC, with more to be announced.
Smartphone users can download Monster Legends for free and purchase a $0.99 gem pack, called ‘War Child Solidarity Pack’, between 12-19th April to unlock exclusive retro content - 100% of net developer proceeds will go to supporting children affected by war. Kongregate’s retro-inspired Tinker Island will also be taking part in the initiative and will be donating 100% of revenue for 24 hours on 15th April.
Wayne Emanuel, Gaming Partnerships Manager at War Child UK says: “RE-PLAY is a campaign about reflecting on childhood and reinforcing the idea that every child has the right to play. For hundreds of thousands of children forced to live in or flee conflict, playing and its link to developing a child’s identity, creative thinking and problem solving, is often overlooked. We’re really excited to be supported in our initial year with past supporters such as Wargaming, 2K, Team17, Double Fine and Social Point along with new partners including Bethesda Softworks, Roll7, Ustwo, and Kongregate.”
Nearly 250 million children are living in countries affected by conflict, with the majority at risk of not reaching their full potential because they don’t have safe spaces to play or have access to education.
That’s why, War Child has developed its Can’t Wait To Learn programme, an innovative project which gives children the opportunity to learn by playing educational games on tablet computers. Providing mobile access to education means that in communities where schools have been damaged or teachers are absent, there are still engaging and fun ways to learn. All games are custom built and designed to reflect the syllabus of the country where they’re used, and it has proven to positively change the way children learn and develop.
War Child UK, together with its US based partner Children in Conflict support working 15 countries across Africa, Asia, the Middle East, and Latin America providing protection, education and longer term livelihood solutions to children affected by conflict.

ABOUT WAR CHILD UK
War Child is striving for a world where children’s lives are no longer torn apart by war.
We protect, educate and stand up for the rights of children caught up in conflict. We aim to reach children as early as possible when conflict breaks out and stay to support them through their recovery - helping to keep them safe, give them an education, and equip them with skills for the future.
We understand children’s needs, respect their rights, and put them at the centre of the solution - from supporting Syrian children to access education, to reintegrating child soldiers in the Central African Republic and promoting justice for young people in detention in Afghanistan. Together with our partners we work in 15 countries across Africa, Asia and the Middle East, and Latin America.
We also work with children and young people to change systems and practices that affect them – campaigning on the root causes of conflict and demanding that children are at the centre of humanitarian response.

Book of the Week: Sci-Fi Thriller, Doyle’s Law

Doyle’s Law: Sci-Fi Thriller, a “Wild Ride”, Straps Readers into Space Station with Cosmos’ Most Irreverent Scientist Sam Roberts’ ‘Doyle’s Law’ is an intricate, cinematic new thriller that fuses intense paranoia and science fiction, told through the periscope of a bumbling, inept scientist attempting to fix the space station he has royally sabotaged. It’s a story in two parts, as time twists, plots tangle and the depths of human clumsiness become chillingly evident. One critic recently wrote, “This damn book cost me too much needed sleep. It was like a giant puzzle with all the pieces slowly making sense and fitting together. Well done, sir.” When most authors depict the crews of spaceships, they are painted as fearless, totally-in-control heroes using their wit and tenacity to achieve the unthinkable… …But Chief O’Connor, protagonist in Sam Roberts’ ‘Doyle’s Law’ is slightly less noble. In fact, his entire crew suspects him of sabotage and rampant buck-passing. As hostilities ri
